Occasional Use Notices

If betting is to take place on 8 days or less in a calendar year on the 'track' and there is no track betting licence in place, then Section 39 Gambling Act 2005, allows for licensed betting operators to conduct betting under the Authority of an Occasional Use Notice.

It is the occupier of the venue or the person responsible for administration of the events at the venue who should give notice to Liverpool City Council Licensing Authority and the Police. No objection may be raised. There is no time restriction as to when the notice must be given, so in theory notification could be given on the day the event takes place.

No conditions may be attached to an Occasional Use Notice and no fee can be charged. Notification forms (PDF [35.5Kb] opens in new window) may be obtained here.

Temporary Use Notices

A gambling operator may use a premises temporarily for gambling where no premises licence is in force under the authority of a Temporary Use Notice. Examples of premises that may be considered suitable for a Temporary Use Notice would include hotels, exhibition centres, conference centres and sporting venues.

The Notice allows gambling to take place at the premises for up to 21 Days during any 12 month period. The Liverpool City Council Licensing Authority has set a fee of £375.00. Application forms (PDF [36.4Kb] opens in new window) may be obtained here.
