The Gambling Act 2005 came into force on 1 September 2007. The new legislation transferred responsibility for licensing of gambling premises from the local magistrates court to the Licensing Authority (the City Council). We are currently in the transitional phase and if you wish to continue trading after 1 September 2007, you must make the relevant application for your class of premises.
The Gambling Commission are currently dealing with applications for Personal Licences and Operating Licences. Further information and Application forms may be accessed by visiting their website.
Premises Licence Application Forms may be accessed by visiting The Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) website.
Continuation Rights
If you did not apply to convert your premises licence or permit before 1st September 2007, your continuation rights to continue trading from 1 September 2007 will not apply.
If you do not wish to operate any of the above type of premises after 31 August 2007 then you need not take any further action. All existing permissions expired on 31 August 2007.
Please visit the relevant web page for your class of premises by clicking the Gambling Act 2005 button on the left hand side of this page and then choosing the type of premises you are interested in.
