Liverpool City Council - Hairdressing licencing

Hairdressing licences

Persons are not allowed to carry on the business of a hairdresser or barber unless they are registered by the City Council. Bye-laws made under Section 42 of the Liverpool Corporation Act 1955 exist to secure the cleanliness of premises and the equipment used by a hairdresser or barber and to minimise the risk of transmission of infection during such activities.

The registration can either be in the name of the business so that all operators are covered or in the name of an individual so only that person is covered.

A certificate of registration will only be issued if the premises/rooms to be used comply with the adopted bye-laws.

The registration covers the business at that address, although a person covered by a licence may occasionally operate at another premises.

There is a requirement for re-registration if a business moves or changes hands.

How long does the registration last?

The registration certificate is issued to individuals to operate within the Liverpool City Council area and lasts for as long as they operate within the district.

The occupier of the registered premises must keep a copy of the certificate of registration on display within the premises.

Is there a fee for registration?

There is no fee for registration.
