Under legislation, the Council grants licences for Pet Shops to operate in the City of Liverpool.

How do I make an application for a Pet Shop licence?

An application form must be completed and submitted to the Licensing Service. You will also need to pay an application fee of:-

  •  £165 which does not include any veterinary inspections.

All cheques should be made payable to 'Liverpool City Council'.

What do I get for the fee?

The Council consults with an Environmental Health Officer, RSPCA and a site visit will be made by a licensing officer as part of your application.

What qualifications do I need?

To operate a pet shop, the owner or at least one member of staff must have a recognised qualification or relevant experience. Please read the guidance notes if you are not sure.

How long will the application take?

A report is prepared to go to the Licensing Committee for their consideration. The normal period this takes is approximately two months.
