Under legislation the council grants licences for the provision of sex shops in the City of Liverpool.

When an application is made the premises are inspected by the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and a council surveyor to determine suitability for the licence.

How do I apply for a Sex Shop Licence?
You need to complete an application form and return it to the licensing office.

Do I need to advertise my application?
You need to advertise your request in the local newspaper (for one night only, but allowing 28 days for objections to be received by this office). A copy of a sample advertisement is attached to the guidance notes in respect of the licence you have applied for. You also have to advertise in the window or on a door at the premises for 28 days.

What is the fee payable?
£5000 for the grant of a licence
£1600 for the renewal of a licence

When will the application be granted?
All applications must be put before the Licensing Committee and they sit at least once a month. The average time it takes from making an application to it being granted is about three months.

Do I need to make my application in person?
Yes. The legislation requires the application form to be signed. However, the Licensing Service is prepared to accept an application form by email or fax, but you must post in the original application form to the Licensing Service.
