Liverpool City Council - business finance

Liverpool can offer a wide range of financial assistance to new and existing businesses.  This is helped by Merseyside still getting money through its Tier 2 "Assisted Area" status.

The Council's own Financial Assistance to Business scheme (FAB) uses European and council funds to give grants and loans to new and existing local firms, and to inward investors (firms who want to expand here).  Assistance will be considered for business projects where:

  • permanent jobs will be created for local people;
  • potential sales will not be primarily at the expense of other local firms;
  • the business and its project appear to be soundly managed and viable;
  • help is needed for the project to proceed;
  • the project is within the city of Liverpool

But we offer more than just financial support.  Investment managers in Liverpool Vision give help to local companies on other types of funding available.

We work closely with a number of partners including:

The North West Development Agency (NWDA) provides grants to businesses undertaking development projects, but needing financial help to go ahead.  This scheme is called "Selective Finance for Investment" and the minimum amount that can be applied for is £10,000.

Other help is available from a range of sources such as loans or equity finance through the Merseyside Special Investment Fund, or specific help for new businesses in North Liverpool through the Sefton/Liverpool Enterprise Growth Initiative known as Step Clever.  There are also grants to help with training and recruitment.

A wide range of local partnership projects can be used.  This depends upon the type of investment and its location.
