The Merseyside ICT sector is worth £2 billion to the local economy. In recent years, ICT has developed to become a major new sector that brings many jobs to the city of Liverpool.

Leading firms based in Liverpool, and who specialise in interactive media and bespoke software are:

  • Sony CC
  • Brain Boxes
  • Amaze
  • New Mind
  • the Mando Group; and
  • Gardner Systems.

Technology and Learning

Liverpool University's AIMES Centre (Advanced Internet Methods & Emergent Systems) develops business applications for ICT firms in the Liverpool area.

The International Centre for Digital Content (ICDC) is the only UK digital content business school.  It is located within Liverpool John Moores University.

Liverpool Digital / Digital One

Wavertree Technology Park is currently being refurbished; and Edge Lane - one of the major gateways into the city - is being improved.  On the former MTL, Littlewoods and Marconi sites between the two of them, redevelopment is taking place to create a quality location in which to attract and grow firms who specialise in high technology.

The scheme, known as Digital One, will become a regional centre of excellence for the ICT sector.

Its aim will be to provide a home to business, and will help people start up new companies.  These will be brought together with university research facilities to focus on the creative and digital industries. As such, the scheme will attract ICT and knowledge based firms and jobs.  By the year 2013, some 5000 to 7000 new jobs will have been created.

Liverpool Science Park

The Liverpool Science Park (LSP) sits in the shadow of the city's Metropolitan Cathedral.  This is a joint project of Liverpool University and Liverpool John Moores University.

Opened in early 2006, LSP provides space for high technology and knowledge-based firms in the region.  It will become the third largest science park in Europe.
