Neighbourhood Partnerships

Liverpool has a number of areas where there is real poverty. The European Commission gives money to the Government to pass on to Councils in Britain where there are areas of deep poverty. The European Objective One funding programme created strong partnerships to work with these very poor areas. In Liverpool twenty two of the poorest were chosen as priority areas.
These areas are known as Pathways Partnerships.
These local regeneration partnerships include service providers and local people. They have been grouped together into five clusters. These clusters link with Liverpool's Strategic Investment Areas where money is spent to help firms to develop and create jobs.
Liverpool First is the umbrella group that makes sure those who should be involved in decision making are involved. It comprises:
- Neighbourhood Partnerships;
- Strategic Issue Partnerships;
- Strategic Investment Areas.
Local action plans and priorities have helped to shape, complement and deliver Liverpool First's priority targets. These include:
- improving housing;
- raising school standards;
- reducing crime;
- tackling poor health levels.
These priorities are now also part of Liverpool's Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy.
Funding from the Government and from Europe can be used to support services to local areas. These may be provided by the local Council but also by other groups. This funding comes from the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB), and Pathways (Objective One).
