Regenerating Anfield and Breckfield

The Anfield Breckfield area of North Liverpool lies within the 'Inner Core' of the city.  It is also inside the  Housing Market Renewal Initiative (HMRI) boundary.

In 1999, Liverpool Football Club's (LFC) wish to expand their Stadium helped to start a regeneration plan of the Anfield Breckfield area.  However, the first plan caused unease among local residents who felt they had not been asked about the ideas.

Liverpool City Council promised that any future area strategy would be put together with local people. So, in early 2000, the Anfield and Breckfield Steering Group (ABCSG) was set up; it included local people. A new plan for the area was formed and published in June 2002.

After this, a Joint Steering Group was set up.  Its members included - amongst others - the ABCSG, Liverpool City Council and LFC.

The Steering Group put together a new Regeneration Strategy.  This brought together the community's ideas with the stadium ambitions of LFC.

Local people saw this Strategy during July and September 2002.
