The focus of Eastern Approaches is the Edge Lane Corridor.  This has to be the most important gateway to Liverpool City Centre with its large number of jobs.

At the core of the SIA is the successful Wavertree Technology Park.  Not far from this is the Edge Lane Retail Park.

The SIA programme aims to create a first class gateway to the city from the M62 motorway.  It wants to help high technology businesses and existing firms in the area to grow, creating new jobs for people who live in nearby areas - which are some of the poorest in the country.

The largest projects will include:

  • carrying out major improvements to Edge Lane;
  • extending Wavertree Technology Park to include the new Liverpool Science Park proposed for the former MTL site; and
  • helping similar businesses to locate together in one area, especially ICT and Knowledge based firms who can benefit from working together.

A number of high profile companies are already working in Wavertree Technology Park.  These include:

  • Barclaycard
  • Marconi
  • Brainboxes
  • Sony Computer Entertainment Europe
  • Gardner Systems and
  • the Mando Group.

Eastern Approaches is an area that has excellent transport links, and an existing hi-technology base including Marconi. It is very close to the city's universities and city centre.

Liverpool Vision's strategy is to make sure that the digital and ICT sectors continue to invest in Eastern Approaches; to attract high-quality new inward investors; and to enable SME expansion.

You can find out more about the Eastern Approaches/Edge Lane area on the Liverpool Vision website.

Within the area, JET Eastern Link offers help to local people trying to find jobs or skills training courses.  You can visit the JET Eastern Link website or find out more about JETs (Jobs Education Training).
