EU Transnational Programmes

The EC has hundreds of different funding programmes covering a wide variety of policy areas. These range from multi billion euro programmes to assist blue sky research through to small scale initiatives of a few thousand euro for town twinning activities.
Unlike Structural Funds, these programmes are administered directly from Brussels and funding is not allocated to a particular region on country. The majority of the programmes operate on the basis of period calls for proposals which are issued by the EC In most cases projects must have a number of different partner organisations based in two or three different countries of the EU.
The programmes can be complex, difficult to access, and restricted to certain categories of applicant. They are also competitive with organisations from across Europe bidding into the same pot of money.
For these reasons the city council is very selective in the number of applications that it submits into these programmes and will not usually be involved in more than three or four EU transnational projects/programmes at any one time.
Nevertheless, if you have a strong project or idea that may also be of interest to others elsewhere in the EU it may be worth considering an application. The Council's European Team can help to identify potential programmes and the web links below will take you to EC sites where further details can be find for some of the main areas covered:
