City Growth Liverpool Strategy

Putting business at the heart of Liverpool's growth
The City Growth model is a new business growth process. The City Council, through Liverpool Vision, made a successful bid to the government to be part of the City Growth programme.
This programme asks the private sector to write a business development strategy based on research and evidence.
The City Growth Liverpool Board's aim is to grow the wealth of the City. If firms grow, more of the City's people can find jobs.
The strategy sums up the Board's vision. It lists ways to improve business growth, specifies the barriers facing firms as they try to take advantage of these opportunities, and describes the actions necessary to remove these barriers.
The ambition behind City Growth Liverpool flows from the belief that only business and enterprise can create jobs and income for residents.
City Growth is about Liverpool getting the important things right, and has six main objectives:
- to help local business leaders create a new vision for their city by identifying business opportunities;
- to make the City Growth Liverpool area a better location for business;
- to increase income and job opportunities for residents;
- to change attitudes about opportunities in the City Growth area;
- to create leadership to make things happen;
- to increase the productivity of the City Growth area.
The City Growth Liverpool Board is led by the private sector. It has met monthly since December 2004, and has carried out 11 major pieces of research to make sure that the views are based on evidence. The total value of the private sector time given to the City Growth project is greater than £250,000.
The City Growth Liverpool Board has completed the challenge they were set by the City Council and Liverpool Vision. The ten key themes for action in the strategy will help to improve the performance of the City Growth economy and its businesses.
The City Growth Liverpool Vision
Over the next ten years, the City Growth Liverpool economy will see its business base improve. This will create wealth and jobs for people living and working in the City.
This requires public and private partners working together to inspire greater levels of ambition in our people. A dedicated focus is also needed to help release the untapped potential tied up in all our assets and a drive to secure greater returns from our efforts.
The City Growth Liverpool area lies around the city centre. It focuses on the key economic, housing and social regeneration areas. It excludes the vibrant economy of the city centre, and instead focuses on areas in greatest need of the intensive City Growth approach.
Implementation
BusinessLiverpool will be responsible for making the City Growth Strategy work. An Implementation Group, made up of senior representatives from Liverpool's key public agencies, will carry out many of the actual tasks and will feed into the Liverpool Vision structure.
