When Liverpool was named as the UK's European Capital of Culture 2008 in June 2003, the city received a well earned boost to its confidence.
This boost came at a much needed time following the economic hardships which the city had faced in the 1980's and 1990's.
Today, the city is seen the world over as undergoing a major revival. In early 2004, the then Council Leader Mike Storey OBE dubbed the city as "Liverpool: Capital of Cranes".
This book lists some of the largest projects in the city centre from 1995 to 2004.
It shows the rise in the number of schemes in recent years as confidence by the development sector has grown.
The book has over 100 colour photographs; and refers to the early contributions made by:
- Merseyside Development Corporation
- City Challenge
- Ropewalks Partnership, and
- the co-ordinating role of Liverpool Vision.
All development areas are in the book. These include offices and shops; new homes; tourism and leisure; education and bio-manufacturing industries.
