Liverpool City Council - employment regulations

Employment regulations

As an organisation, we aim to comply fully with the relevant employment legislation for all areas.

We have a number of employment policies and procedures. We developed these over many years and agreed them with the joint trade unions.

Key documents include the following:

  • Employment Code of Practice (this includes our discipline and grievance procedures)
  • Harassment and Discrimination guidance (this is about how to identify, prevent and complain about it)
  • Service Review (this is the process for the reorganisation of services)
  • Redeployment (this is the process for finding new work for 'at risk' employees)
  • Recruitment and Selection
  • Pay Protection
  • Sickness Procedures: Creating an Attendance Culture (this covers the sickness absence procedure, and the
  • sickness capability and retirement procedures)
  • Maternity, paternity and adoption
  • Email, Internet and Intranet Usage
  • Code of Conduct (for Council Officers and Members)
  • Workforce Consultation
  • Violence at Work
  • Whistleblowing

The Human Resource and Payroll Service is responsible for these documents.   We make sure that our managers and staff know about them, through our intranet pages, training courses and briefing notes.

We review our policies and procedures on a regular basis.   We amend them as necessary to make sure that we comply with the legislation in all cases.
