What is the Commercial Unit?
The Unit promotes improved standards of health and safety in the workplace by
- Inspecting places of work
- Giving advice
- Investigating accidents
- Responding to complaints
- Taking enforcement action
The Unit carries out enforcement. This can be in shops, offices, hotels, warehouses, builders' merchants, steel stockholders, residential homes, leisure facilities and nursing agencies.
What do the Unit's enforcement powers cover?
They cover:
- Health and safety at work
- Sunday trading
- Infectious diseases
- Skin piercing
- Animal health and welfare
