Why you need a personal licence
A personal licence authorises a specified person to supply alcohol or allow the supply of alcohol at a premise which has a valid premise licence. The licence is valid for 10 years.
Personal licences are needed to supervise the sale of alcohol in any premises – including pubs, off licences, restaurants and hotels.
How to apply
You must apply to the licensing authority where you live and not in the district in which you work. To make an application you must:
- Be over 18 years of age.
- Not have any relevant or foreign criminal convictions as described in the Licensing Act.
- Possess an approved licensing qualification.
- Pay the required fee of £37.

Fees
Send applications to the following address, with cheques for the appropriate fees, made payable to Liverpool City Council. Visit the Department for Culture, Media and Sport for fee information.
Lost or stolen personal licences
You must report lost or stolen licences to the police. Once you have done this, notify the Licencsing Unit in writing and quote the police reference number. Enclose a cheque for £10.50 for a replacement licence, made payable to Liverpool City Council. We will send you your replacement licence by post.
