You will need to obtain a licence from the council if carrying out any of the following works:
Section 50 street works licence
Streetworks which includes the breaking open, boring or tunnelling under any street to place, adjust, repair, alter or renew any apparatus.

Scaffold hoarding
A licence is required to erect a scaffold or other structure on the highway (inclusive of grass verges and footpaths).

A licence is required to place a ‘H’ marking on part of the public highway, which should be kept clear of parked vehicles either outside an entrance to off-street premises.

If you wish to close a road or footpath or divert traffic for any reason, then a temporary traffic regulation order is required.

Private apparatus within a public highway
A highway projection licence is required for private apparatus to sit within a public highway. For example, a private telephone cable which spans a street between buildings or a small canopy on a building.
