Islam

Muslims hold six main beliefs:

  • Belief in Allah as the one and only God.
  • Belief in angels.
  • Belief in the holy books.
  • Belief in the Prophets.
  • Belief in the Day of Judgement.
  • Belief in Predestination.

They are required to follow the 'Five Pillars of Islam':

  • Affirmation that there is no other God but Allah.
  • Five daily ritual prayers, at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset and night.
  • Fasting during the month of Ramazan (often written as Ramadan). To keep strictly to the fast, Muslims will abstain from food and drink from dawn until sunset.
  • Giving money to the poor and making a pilgrimage to Islam's most holy shrine, the place of the Prophet Mohammed's birth at Mecca, at least once in a lifetime.
