Liverpool City Council - Memorialisation

Memorialisation

Introduction

Various options for memorialisation are offered at both Springwood and Anfield Crematorium; to allow families to remember a loved one.

On this page you can find details of the available memorialisation schemes; conditions of participation; price list and downloadable application forms.

Conditions of Participation

With the exception of a colonnade niche; the location of a memorialisation item does not constitute a marker of the actual location of particular cremated remains.

All memorialisation is provided on a five year display period.   The only exceptions to this relate to the colonnade niche; where either a five or ten year display period can be purchased and an entry into the Book of Remembrance; which is a permanent form of memorialisation requiring no renewal fees.

No form of memorial or commemoration other than those supplied and installed by the City Council may be placed within the crematoria buildings or grounds.   The City Council will remove any unauthorised items; articles; container or artefact.

No fencing etc should be placed around memorialisation to designate an individual plot.   Such items will be removed.

With regard to memorial rose and plaques; only one spiked flower vase is permitted per rose and plaque.   Any additional vases will be removed.

At the end of the display period the City Council will write to the last known address of the applicant offering renewal of the display period; the fee payable is the full fee applicable at that time.   If the agreement is not renewed the memorialisation item will be removed from display.

With regard to a colonnade niche; if after a period of three months from the expiry of the display period no contact has been made by the applicant; the cremated remains will be removed from the colonnade niche.   The remains will then be respectfully strewn within the Gardens of Remembrance.   The colonnade niche will then be made available for other families.

The City Council will endeavour to ensure all memorial items are kept in reasonable condition.   The City Council hold no responsibility for damage caused to items other than by its own negligence.

The City Council reserves the right to alter or amend the product and the conditions of participation of any of its memorial schemes.   Payment of appropriate fees are to be made at the time of application.

Baby GardenMemorial Plaque

Memorialisation

Within the Baby Gardenat Springwood Crematorium is a memorial plaque tower with individual granite plaques onto which an inscription can be added.   Each plaque is displayed for a five-year period.

A further five years may be purchased upon expiry.   If a further five-year display period is not purchased; the plaque will be removed from display and given back to the family if desired.

Book of Remembrance

A popular way of commemorating a friend or loved one is by purchasing an entry in the Book of Remembrance at either Anfield or Springwood Crematorium.

Memorialisation

Each entry is handwritten in traditional style and can be accompanied by a motif; such as a flower or a shield; which is hand painted by craftsmen.   Space can be reserved for future use.

The book is displayed on a page a day basis so that each entry may be viewed on the chosen date of entry.  This option is a permanent form of memorialisation with no renewal fees.

Miniature Books of Remembrance and Memorial Cards are also available displaying your chosen inscription.  These make an ideal personal memento.

Memorial Rose Bush and Plaque

A beautiful way to remember a loved one is to have an existing flowering rose in their memory.   Memorial roses are available within certain beds at both crematoria and also help to ensure that the crematorium grounds remain a pleasant and attractive place to visit.

Memorialisation

Please note that the roses have already been planted and it is therefore not possible to have a rose planted in a specific location.   It may also not be possible to choose the colour of the rose.

Each rose will be accompanied by an attractive plaque with a suitable inscription; with engraved lettering in black on a gold background.

The plaque is displayed for a five year period.  A further five years may be purchased upon expiry but if a further five year period is not purchased the plaque will be removed from display and the rose made available for other families.

Each plaque will accommodate up to 80 letters; although it is possible to purchase an additional plaque.   This will be situated immediately below the main inscription.

Memorial Plaque

Memorial plaques give a beautiful lasting memory of a loved one.   The product range offers a comprehensive selection of wall mounted tributes.

Memorialisation
Wording on each plaque is carefully engraved by skilled craftsmen and is offered in a gold finish.   A choice of decorative motifs is offered as an added feature or you may wish to select a photograph for mounting onto your tribute.

Plaques can be displayed either within the Book of Remembrance Room or on a specially constructed wall within the Gardenof Remembrance.

Each plaque is displayed for a five year period. A further five years may be purchased upon expiry.   If a further five year period is not purchased the plaque will be removed from display.

Colonnade Niche - Anfield Crematorium

The colonnade wall situated at Anfield Crematorium is an alternative to the formal strewing or burial of cremated remains.   The scheme provides for the placement of cremated remains within a niche that accommodates up to two sets of cremated remains.

Memorialisation

This is fronted by an inscribed plaque with the inscription chosen by the family. Families may wish to select a photograph for mounting onto their tribute.

A wooden casket is supplied with this option.

Families may wish to witness the placing of cremated remains in the niche; which can also be done as part of a service.  Families should note that the cremated remains are placed in the niche for a period of either five or ten years.  This may be extended for a further period with the fee at that time being applicable.

If the display period is not extended and the cremated remains not claimed they shall; after a period of three months; be strewn in the Gardenof Remembrance.
