Liverpool City Council - planning your marriage

Planning your marriage/civil partnership at the Cotton Exchange

The Register Office is situated in the Cotton Exchange, Old Hall Street, Liverpool.

Planning your marriage/civil partnership at the Cotton Exchange is an important part of your special day. We aim to make your day a relaxed, memorable and enjoyable occasion.

You may choose to have a quiet, short civil ceremony with just two witnesses, or you may prefer to invite lots of guests and have an elaborate ceremony.

We are happy to suggest a variety of non-religious ceremonies, readings and music to suit you and are able to discuss any individual requirements you have.

Your ceremony includes the legally required declaration and vows of matrimony.  In addition you may invite family or friends to contribute non-religious poetry or readings. You may choose your own music or invite a singer or musician to perform at the ceremony.

The giving and receiving of wedding rings is your own personal choice.  Where you wish to exchange rings, you may also wish to consider a personal declaration to add to the traditional exchange.

Whatever you decide we are here to help you turn your big day into an extra special occasion in a beautifully renovated listed building in the heart of Liverpool.

We offer a choice of three air-conditioned, tastefully decorated ground floor ceremony rooms.  Each room is fitted with a Loop system to help those with hearing difficulties.

For more intimate or informal ceremonies our Clews room seats up to 25 guests. Our Sefton and Derby rooms seat up to 70 guests, giving the time, space and freedom to enhance your ceremony with readings and music of your choice.

Please discuss your personal requirements with one of our team.

You may wish to have someone record the whole of the ceremony on video.  We can accommodate one video camera close to the Superintendent Registrar for the whole of the ceremony.
