Liverpool City Council - renewal of vows

Renewal of vows and naming ceremonies

Renewal of Vows

Liverpool Register Office offers couples the chance to renew their marriage vows in a civil ceremony.

What is the 'Renewal of marriage vows' ceremony?
This ceremony is for any married couple wishing to celebrate renewing their marriage vows in a unique and personal ceremony. It may be associated with a special wedding anniversary, or may be a wish to celebrate a renewed commitment to each other.

Can any married couple take part in the ceremony?
Any married couple, of any age and married for any length of time, can arrange a ceremony. You do not need to live in the area where you want to hold your ceremony.

Where do the 'Renewal of marriage vows' ceremonies take place?
Ceremonies are held at the Register Office or at a number of suitable, approved venues throughout Liverpool.

Naming Ceremonies

We offer naming ceremonies as a non-religious alternative to baptisms for families celebrating the birth of a new baby.

It is a chance to gather together closest family and friends to:

  • welcome a child into the family or wider community
  • announce the names that are given, and maybe the reasons behind their choice
  • make promises of commitment to the child
  • choose other adults prepared to promise a special supportive relationship to the child

These ceremonies are also to celebrate or welcome adoptive children and step-children into a new, extended family or relationship.

Any parent can arrange a naming ceremony, whether married or not, with any spiritual or religious beliefs, or with none, or from any cultural background.

Where do the "Naming' ceremonies take place?
They are held at the Register Office or at a number of approved, suitable venues throughout Liverpool.
