Purpose of the exercise:

The purpose of this exercise was to understand young people's feelings of safety and their experience of and fear of crime. It also measured what is important to young people and where improvements are needed to increase their perception of their feelings of safety.

Who was consulted and how:

In total 1,534 young people who were engaged in mainstream education and aged between 5 and 19 years of age took part in the consultation

The results were reported to:

  • Citysafe - the city's crime and disorder reduction partnership
  • Cllr. Colin Eldridge, executive member for Leisure and Community Safety 
  • the Culture, Media and Sport select committee
  • the five neighbourhood partnerships children and young people working groups
  • Children's Services    

What were the findings of the exercise:

The survey said that the place where young people feel the safest is their school, the place where the feel the least safe is in the city centr.

What are the changes to the service brought about as a result of the consultation:

The Community Safety team are working on a joint commissioning framework with Children's Services to develop diversionary activities for young people. 

Citysafe are also working with 10 schools across Liverpool as part of the 'Act together' initiative. This iniative involves the schools in the development of a short presentation/drama based on the themes that have been raised following the feelings of safety consultation .
