Start date: 1 November 2006

End date: 13 July 2007

Purpose of the exercise:

To find out whether people think that the aims and objectives for investing in voluntary and community organisations that the council intends to fund during 2008/11 will meet the priority needs of Liverpool citizens

Who was consulted and how:

A wide range of voluntary and community organisations including faith groups, disabled people led organisations, Black and minority ethnic and women's groups were consulted.

Three initial workshops were staged with voluntary and community organisations, including all currently funded groups.  These were also interviews with 10 local stakeholders including council officers.

Following these events a consultation document was sent to members of the Liverpool Community Network asking for written responses and inviting participants to attend workshops setting out broad themes, principles and priorities for funding for voluntary and community groups

Who were the results of the exercise be reported to?

The results were reported to the council's executive board in August.

The findings of the exercise

In general terms, there was agreement with the proposals in the initial consultation document, which set out some broad themes, principles and priorities for funding.

However, with reference to one theme about funding advice agencies in the city, there were almost equal splits of those who agreed and disagreed on two particular proposals. Firstly, to only fund one city centre advice outlet and, secondly, to fully integrate the provision of advice for disabled residents through all mainstream advice services, rather than fund discrete advice services for disabled people.
