Purpose of the exercise:
A statutory national survey is undertaken by every library in the country. The survey aims to get customers' view on the services provided and their level of satisfaction with the service. This satisfaction rating feeds into Liverpool's libraries score on the public library service standards.
Who was consulted and how:
During the week beginning 1 October 2007, every child under 16 who visited a library was handed a questionnaire.

The results were reported to the:
- Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accounting (Cipfa)
- Department of Culture, Media and Sport
- executive member for Leisure and Community Safety, Cllr. Colin Eldridge
What were the findings of the exercise:
The children's overall satisfaction level was 83%, similar to the last survey. Children said that using the library helped them learn, read, do better at school, try new things, join in and make friends.

Best practice will be identified from the libraries with the best satisfaction scores and disseminated to other libaries to help improve their performance.
