Start date: 29 October 2007
End date: 17 December 2007
Purpose of the exercise:
This consultation sought views about the proposed changes to secondary school provision across the city.
Who was consulted and how:
We consult with the following via face-to-face interviews and a postal questionnaire:
- elected members
- schools
- strategic partners
- local members of Parliament
- children and young people
- parents/carers
- school governors
- school staff
- other local authorities
- the Primary Care Trust
- NHS trusts
- the Learning and Skills Council
Who were the results of the exercise reported to?
The results were reported to the executive board on 14 March 2008
What were the findings of the exercise:
Nearly 1,800 people completed the consultation questionnaire. The responses revealed broad agreement with all of the proposals, with the exception of the proposal in south Liverpool "to withdraw the current wave 2 proposal at New Heys Community comprehensive school in favour of a new shared campus with an admission number of 180 on the site of either the New Heys Community community comprehensive school or St. Benedict's College under wave 6 of building schools for the future (BSF). This would incorporate a business and enterprise specialism in partnership with private sector interests, with the potential to become a trust school." There was also some disagreement with proposals to reduce the admission number at several schools, and with the proposal to offer mixed provision for boys and girls at St. Hilda's Church of England school.
Read the report that went to the executive board to see information from the completed questionnaires in full, and the council's response to these.
What are the changes to the service brought about as a result of this consultation:
Following the consultation, the twenty-two proposals in relation to the future of secondary schools in Liverpool were further developed. The funding of these proposals in subject to approval from the Dept. for Children, Families and Schools.
Further information on the progress of the proposals can be found on the council's school organisation web pages.
