Building control customer satisfaction survey
Background
This survey was carried out to measure the levels customer satisfaction with the Building Control service and to identify areas for improvement. During February 2007, a telephone survey was carried out with 404 customers of the service who had received decisions on building control applications.
Summary of results:
The majority of people:
- were using the service for the first time
- obtained the building control application form by either requesting it over the telephone or from the council's website
- found the application forms, and the scale of charges levied by the service, either easy or very easy to understand
- found pre-submission meetings beneficial when obtained
- received correspondence about their application, with architects and surveyors most likely to have received correspondence
- found that when site visits were requested, they were mainly carried out within 24 hours of the request, and in most cases the surveyor arrived on time
- agreed that the Building Control Inspectorate were helpful, polite, knowledgeable, respectful and flexible
- all things considered, 94% of respondents were satisfied with the Building Control service, compared with 92% in 2005
