Council performance
The council is constantly striving to deliver top quality, cost-effective services to meet the needs and growing expectations of our customers. We need to continue to improve and demonstrate this improvement through the use of performance management.
Performance management is important as it enables us to:
- focus on the council's priorities
- set targets
aimed at improving services and measure progress - identify and tackle poor performance
- be accountable to our customers
- help ensure we provide value for money.
Performance information enables us to compare with other councils and to see what represents the best terms of performance and service provision.
The following pages provide information on the key activities relating to the management and reporting of our performance, the:
- corporate plan 2008/09 - 20010/11 sets out the council's high-level priorities, measures and targets for the next three years, until 2011. It also provides an account of what we have done in the last year against our targets we published in last year's (2007/08 - 09/10) plan.
- council's performance management framework, information on how we carry out performance management.
- Liverpool area agreement, information on the agreement between the council, its partners and central government
- neighbourhood agreements, information on the primary planning documents for each of the five neighbourhoods.
- comprehensive performance assessment is the government's inspection regime for local councils and provides an overall judgement for the council as a whole
- inspections, the council's services are inspected by statutory agencies, such as the Audit Commission, OfSTED and the Commission for Social Care Inspection to assess the quality of the services we deliver and help us to identify how they can improve.
