Electronic government
Electronic government
What is electronic government?
Electronic government (also known as e-Government) is all about using new technology to give customers more choice in how, where and when they can access council information and services.
Background
Liverpool City Council is committed to providing electronic access to its key services, and has delivered electronic services in line with the following government targets:
BVPI 157: this Best Value Performance Indicator required all local authorities to make their key services electronically accessible (by this definition, allowing customers to access council services using the internet or by telephone) by December 2005. Liverpool completed this work and achieved this target by December 2004, a full year ahead of schedule.
Key Priority Outcomes: the e-Government Key Priority Outcomes were specific targets and aims set by the Government for all local authorities. These were grouped into three sectors: Required, Good and Excellent. Liverpool completed this work in April 2006.
IEG Statements
IEG Statements: All UK local authorities were required by central government to complete and submit an Implementing Electronic Government (IEG) statement. This document outlined Liverpool's progress against the above-mentioned e-government targets set by the government.
Future developments
We are currently developing a new e-government strategy, outlining a new work programme which will incorporate both local and national targets. This strategy will be published in December 2007.
