Service leadership

Good quality service planning and management is critical to the council's success in delivering its priorities. This year, we will sharpen our approach to portfolio and service planning. Portfolios will produce three-year business plans by October, with individual services plans prepared by December 2008 for the 2009/10 financial year.

Corporate improvement work will be supplemented with a clear, and well embedded, set of management practices at service level, to ensure good management becomes the norm and agreed corporate practices are implemented across the council.

Managers will act in accordance with corporate values, to promote a performance culture where council priorities drive service, team and individual actions. Managers will support employees through good communications, appropriate training and regular performance review and development.
