Long-term empty rate charge discount ended
As from the 1 April 2007 the discount of 50% for long-tem empty properties has ended. From the 1 April 2007 when a Council Tax property becomes empty an exemption is applicable for any period of less than six months during which no one lives in the property and it remains substantially unfurnished. At the end of the six months, if the property is still vacant and a different exemption is not applicable, then there is a liability for 100% of the charge.
The policy has changed to promote the quick renovation, clearance and re-letting of empty properties in the City.
