Liverpool City Council - how to pay

How to pay your Council Tax

Your Council Tax bill shows the instalment amounts and the dates on which you should pay them. If you do not pay your Council Tax by direct debit you will receive a plastic payment card.

The payment card replaces the payment booklet as your new way to pay your Council Tax.  The card is designed to give you more choice about where and when you pay your Council Tax.  You can use it to pay at any Post Office, PayPoint outlet or Woolworths free of charge. The card cannot be used at banks.

This page contains Adobe PDF documents. If you have problems accessing PDFs you can:

To find your nearest payment outlet see our outlet list (PDF [2.5Mb] opens in new window).  Many of these outlets are open outside normal banking hours.

Using the card is easy and free. Simply:

  • Take your card with your payment to your local Post Office, PayPoint or Woolworths
  • Hand the card and your payment to the cashier, telling them how much you want to pay
  • The cashier will process your payment and give you back your card with a paper receipt.  Keep the receipt as proof of payment.

Please keep your payment card safe as you will not receive a new one each year.

If you lose the card or have any queries about using it please contact 0151 233 3008.
