Your Council Tax bill shows the instalment amounts and the dates on which you should pay them. If you do not pay your Council Tax by direct debit you will receive a plastic payment card.
The payment card replaces the payment booklet as your new way to pay your Council Tax. The card is designed to give you more choice about where and when you pay your Council Tax. You can use it to pay at any Post Office, PayPoint outlet or Woolworths free of charge. The card cannot be used at banks.

. Many of these outlets are open outside normal banking hours.
Using the card is easy and free. Simply:
- Take your card with your payment to your local Post Office, PayPoint or Woolworths
- Hand the card and your payment to the cashier, telling them how much you want to pay
- The cashier will process your payment and give you back your card with a paper receipt. Keep the receipt as proof of payment.
Please keep your payment card safe as you will not receive a new one each year.

How can I pay my Council Tax?
You can pay in the following ways:
Direct Debit
Direct debit is the easiest way to pay. There is a direct debit form
which you can print off, fill in and return to us. Paying by Direct Debit helps keep your Council Tax down.
Online
Paying online is an easy way to pay.
By Debit Card
You can pay by Maestro (formerly Switch), Solo or Delta. Payments can be made using our automated payment line 0151 233 2000. To make a payment, you will need to have your Council Tax payment reference number ready and know the amount you wish to pay. If you do not know your Council Tax payment reference number please call 0151 233 3050 or call in at one of our One Stop Shops.
By post
If you send your payment by post, you should address it to Revenues Service, PO Box 1, Liverpool, L69 2DQ. Please make cheque's and postal orders payable to Liverpool City Council. You should not make cheque and postal orders payable to individual officers. Do not send cash through the post. If you pay by cheque, please write the payment reference number on the back of the cheque. We will not give you a receipt if you pay by cheque unless you specifically ask for one. If you ask for a receipt, send us a stamped addressed envelope.
At a post office
Take your payment card and pay free of charge at any post office. You can pay by cash, cheque or debit card. If you are paying by cheque please make it payable to 'Post Office Ltd'.
At Woolworths
Take your payment card and pay free of charge at any Woolworths branch. You can pay by cash and debit card. Cheque payments are not accepted.
At a PayPoint Outlet
Take your payment card and pay free of charge at any PayPoint outlet. PayPoint outlets only accept cash payments.
By visiting our offices
The cash office at the Municipal Buildings in Dale Street, Liverpool is open at the following times.
Monday to Friday: 8am - 6pm
Saturday: 9am - 1pm
Can I pay my Council Tax in full?
Yes. We offer a prompt payment discount - if your bill shows ten instalments, we will give you a discount if you pay the full amount on or before the date the first instalment is due.
Remember - the Post Office, PayPoint or PAYzone are not our agents. You should make sure that you pay in enough time to make sure we receive your payment in time. You should allow at least seven days for your payment to reach us.
