Education, skills and employment portfolio
Councillor Keith Turner is the executive member for this portfolio. He has specific political responsbility for libraries and sports servicies, tackling worklessness, improving skill levels, developing first-rate education and training provision and making the city a prime destination for post-graduate research. This includes responsiblity for (see 'further information' below for the full roles and responsiblities for this portfolio):

providing political leadership to assist the council, and its partners, to deliver its aim 3: empower our communities

drive progress towards the achievement of targets and key milestones set out in the:

corporate plan, the council's high-level business plan.

city employment strategy delivery plan 2007/09.

multi-area agreement (MAA).

building schools for the future strategic business plan.

developing and implementing the city's building schools for the future (BSF) programme to transform education for secondary age pupils in the city.

ensuring that the council responds to external inspection recommendations.
