Health, care and safeguarding portfolio

Councillor Ron Gould is the executive member for this portfolio. He has specific political responsiblity for adult and children's care, health services, safeguarding, supporting people and old people's services and the social care elements of the children and young people's plan.This includes responsiblity for (see 'further information' below for the full roles and responsiblities for this portfolio):

• providing political leadership that assits the council, and its partners, to deliver its aim to 'empower our residents' and its priority to 'ensure safeguarding and inclusion of the most needs and excluded group in the city, providing equality and real opportunity for improvement and enhanced quality of life.

• driving progress towards the achievement of targets and key milestones set out in the:

  • corporate plan - the council's high-level business plan.

  • parenting strategy.

  • joint health and local authority commissioning strategy.

  • supporting people strategy.

  • older people strategy 2007/17.

  • homelessness strategy.

  • Liverpool active city strategy (to 2010).

• ensuring that the council responds to external inspection recommendations.

Councillor John Clucas is the assistant executive member for this portfolio.
