Executive director for children's services

The executive director for Children's Services is Stuart Smith. 

About Stuart

Stuart trained in Liverpool as a teacher and began his career teaching secondary pupils English in Toxteth in 1982. Since then he has worked in a variety of posts with six local authorities, two at assistant director level leading to his current appointment.  

Stuart has a masters degree in education management and has a specialist interest in providing targeted support to vulnerable pupils.

Responsibilities

Stuart is responsible for managing the all services to do with children and young people, including:

  • education
  • corporate parenting and safeguarding
  • special educational needs and disability
  • youth and community
  • Sure Start
