Childcare training directory
Who is the training directory for?
It is for people who are interested in training to help their work with children. Training can be provided for anybody working in a day care or early education setting, such as:
- a playgroup or nursery
- an 'out of school' service
- as a childminder
There is also information on professional development for existing childcare workers who want to increase their knowledge and skills.
What does the training directory include?
It lists a range of courses from introductory to advanced levels and provides information on:
- where courses are held
- what fees are required
- what the course can lead to
- details of entry requirements
There is a qualification and employment framework in the front of the directory. This identifies levels of qualification required and advises on employment prospects. There is also an index listing all the available courses and details of providers.
The back of the directory contains an appendix including:
- addresses of training providers
- a list of short courses available to anybody working in childcare
- a list of colleges outside the Liverpool area
How do I use the directory to find the correct course for me?
It is divided up into sections by level of qualification, showing the different courses available. This makes identifying the next step in your training easier to do.
Step 2: identify a training provider offering the course from the list provided.
Step 3: use the contact number to get an application form and further details.
-
The Learning Skills Council provides support with fees for further education training and courses. Ask your training provider or further education college for details.
-
Connexions will advise on funding available for lone parents and people who are unemployed under the age of 19. Contact telephone numbers and office addresses are located in the Appendix.
-
Job Centre Plus supports all customers of working age (18-65 years). If you currently receive benefits and are unemployed or returning to the labour market, they may be able to fund the training course you are interested in.
Contact telephone numbers and office addresses are located in the Appendix.
The Childcare Team has funding to help employed people access training. Training providers who hold a contract with us are indicated by a * in the directory. We can fund courses offered by these providers.

Childcare workforce development booklet![(PDF [898.2Kb] opens in new window)](/images/PDF.gif)
This booklet contains details of all short courses programmed for the next financial year. It will help you to access training on offer through the Childcare training team.
The training is divided into five sections under the headings of the five outcomes from the Every Child Matters Agenda.
There is a wide range of training available to support you in delivering a quality service. We hope you will find it useful in supporting you with your work with children.
If you have any comments about the booklet please contact the childcare workforce development co-ordinator on 0151 225 6258.
The five outcomes
The five outcomes are based on the 'Every Child Matters: Change for Children' framework. This outlines the Government's proposals for reforming the delivery of services for children, young people and families.
It builds on existing measures to ensure we protect children at risk from harm and neglect, and support all children to develop their full potential.
These outcomes are:
- be healthy
- stay safe
- enjoy and achieve
- make a positive contribution
- achieve economic well-being
