Services at Ellergreen Children Centre
Ellergreen Children's Centre brings together a wide range of services for children from birth to 5 years old and their families, pregnant women and their partners. The centre is a one-stop shop bringing a range of services together withn the community, including health, family support and ante-natal services for parents and carers. These services are for everyone within the Norris Green Ward and beyond.
To access any of the services and support that is an offer you just need to register with us at the centre. Education and Childcare
Ellergreen Children's centre is part of Ellergreen Early years Centre, a local authority nursery school which provides 5 free 2.5 hour sessions per week Monday - Friday during school term times. The high quality child-centred education for 3&4 year olds takeds place in a well resources environment. All staff are highly qualified teachers and nursery nurses, experienced in working with young children.
In addition to the Nursery School we also offer full daycare for children from the age of 3 months Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.00am - 5.50pm for 50 weeks of the year. The well resources purpose built Childcare Centre is registered with OFSTED early years to provide for children aged from 3 months to 4 years 11 months and works closely with the Nursery School to provide a wide range od wrap around services for the parents of the 3 & 4 year olds who require an extended day or an extended year. The staff team includes highly qualified and experienced nursery nurses working alongside trainees who are following accredited childcare training programmes.
All staff within the Nursery School and Childcare Centre are committed to delivering high quality early education and care and work within the Birth to Three Framework and the Foundation Stage Curriculum to offer the children broad, balanced and challenging activities and experiences within a safe, child centred environment.
The centre places a high importance on Safeguarding and operates within Policies and Procedures including Safer Selection & Recruitment and all staff hold Enhanced CRB Clearance.

Child and Family Health Services
The following services are available in the Centre: -
Fag Ends - offers a weekly smoking cessation drop-in for those looking for help and support to stop smoking. Simply call into the centre on a Monday morning between 9.00 - 10.30 to speak to the advisor. Teenage Parents can access additional support including home visits from Fag Ends advisors. Please contact team member Karen at the centre if you are a teenage parent and would like to access this support.
Midwife drop-in - provided by Midwife Chris Hendrick. Chris is part of a specialist team of midwives attached to work with Children Centres. She provides a weekly drop-in clinic on a Monday afternoon between 1.00 - 2.00 when she is available to offer advice and support to parents to be and new parents - with no appointment necessary just drop-in to the centre.
Dental Health - a designated Dental Health Promotion Worker works closely with the Children Centre team and regularly attends our family activity groups offering the opportunity to discuss any dental health concerns you may have and to ask for advice and guidance on dental issues.
Healthy Eating - a 6 week practical course delivered on a Wednesday morning 9.30 - 11.30 term- time only in the training kitchen here at Ellergreen. Each week the qualified tutor introduces healthy, nutritious menus that are easy to follow and prepare. All ingredients and resources are provided and at the end of each session there is a tasty dish for each participant to take home! Limited childcare places are available to support attendance at this group.
Baby Yoga - gentle movements for adults and babies delivered by team member Claire on a Friday afternoon from 1.30 - 3.00 for babies aged between 4 - 8 months.
Parent & Under 1's group - delivered by the Nursery Nurses from the Health Visitor Team the group meets every week on a Tuesday morning between 10.00 - 11.45 a.m. The group operates on a drop-in basis so parents and carers with babies under 1 year old are welcome to come along anytime during this period.
Sleep Advice - team member Amanda is able to offer advice and support if your young child has problems with sleeping or bedtime routines. If you would like to talk to her about any specific sleep related concerns please contact her at the centre.
In addition to what is on offer at the Children Centre some activities are currently delivered from Lifestyles Leisure Centre, Carr Lane.
Ellergreen Ducklings - held at the Lifestyles Leisure Centre small pool and facilitated by a fully qualified lifeguard this session on a Tuesday morning 11.30 - 12.30 (term time only) is for parents and carers and children aged from 6 months - 3 years. It offers an opportunity to introduce your children to the water and build their confidence as they begin to develop their swimming skills.
Jabadao Movement group - delivered by team members Claire & Leanne on Thursday afternoons in Lifestyles Leisure Centre. This group offers opportunities for children, parent and carers to get involved in developmental child led movement play. It offers babies and young children the opportunities they need to move supported by a wide range of resources and within a safe environment. There are 2 sessions offered depending on the age of the child. 1.00 - 1.45 p.m. session is for babies and young children aged less than 2 years and the 1.45 - 2.45 p.m. session is for children aged from 2 -4 years.
Family Support and Community Outreach
In addition to what is on offer in the Children Centre activity groups are also currently delivered from Christ Church Community Centre, Sedgemoor Road and St. Philomena's Church Hall, Sparrow Hall Road
Little Explorers - delivered by Claire and Karen in the Centre this weekly group offers the opportunity for parents / carers and children aged between 0- 4 years to be creative by taking part in a wide range of creative and 'messy' activities.
Parent & Toddler Group - delivered by Claire and Karen at Christ Church Community Centre this weekly session offers a chance for parents / carers and children aged between 0 -4 years to come together and take part in interactive play.
Musical Movers - have fun with music, song and movement at this weekly group delivered by Amanda and Karen at Christ Church Community Centre. For parents / carers and children aged between 0-4 years
Little Learners - delivered by Claire at St Philomena's Church Hall this weekly session provides a range of equipment and resources to support children's development as they engage with their parents / carers in interactive play. For children aged between 0 - 4 years.
Home visits- the Children Centre link workers will contact each family once notified of a new birth within the Norris Green ward and offer a home visit. The visit offers an opportunity for the link workers to pass on a free welcome pack and to give information on what services and support are on offer through the Children Centre. In addition home visits are also offered to support families with children under 5 years of age in a wide range of areas including support for families with children with SEN / Disability. Young Parents Network-a weekly drop-in session offering the opportunity for young parents and young parents to be between the ages of 16 -20 to meet together. The group is led by team member Karen who will offer a range of activities and provide information on key topics to help support you.
Job Centre Plus
Are you interested in work or training but you're worried about childcare or how it might affect your income? A New Deal Personal advisor will be able to offer advice, help and support on

- Looking for childcare
- Identifying training opportunities
- Understanding what financial help you may be entitled to.
Ellergreen Children Centre has a named Advisor who we work closely with and can help you access the help and support you are looking for.
Liverpool Children's Information Service (LCIS)
This service provides free information on registered childcare provision within the area. LCIS is also working in partnership with Job Centre Plus to support people who want to go back into work or training. A new programme of support includes childcare chats to explain the different options available to you and up to five free taster sessions for parents who are eligible for New Deal for Lone Parents, New Deal for Partners and Employment Zone Recruitment Services.
Childminder Network
A childminder network runs from within Ellergreen Children's Centre. The support group is a formal group of OFSTED registered childminders managed by a designated co-ordinator. Childminders are professional people who provide good quality home based childcare which meets the needs of the local community. The childminder support group hold their drop-in sessions at the Children Centre every Friday morning between 9.30 - 11.00 to enable their minded children to have experience of group activities.
