Stoneycroft Children's Centre
Stoneycroft Children's Centre brings together a wide range of services for children from birth to 5 years old and their families, pregnant women and their partners.
The Centre is a one-stop shop bringing a range of services together within the community, including education and day-care, health, family support and ante-natal services for parents and carers.
These services are for everyone within the Old Swan and beyond.
Education and Childcare
Corinthian Community Primary School provides education for up to 26 children (mornings and afternoons) by a qualified and experienced team of staff.
In addition Stoneycroft Children's Centre offers quality wraparound Day Care for up to 24 three-year-old children, 16 2 - 3 year olds and 18 0 - 2 year olds within the Nursery between 8.00 AM - 6.00 PM for 50 weeks per annum.
Our setting promotes equality and inclusion and actively supports children with additional needs. We also constantly strive to provide opportunities for learning and development that are rich and stimulating and fulfil the Every Child Matters Agenda.
Our first Ofsted Report on May 5th 2007 was very positive and we received a 'good' finding in each category and
'The quality and standards of the care are good.'

Child and Family Health Services
Stoneycroft Children's Centre currently supports a wide range of Health and Midwifery Services within the Centre.
Midwifery led ante-natal/parent craft groups.
- A rolling programme of antenatal classes runs on every Wednesday evening from 6.45 - 8.30PM.
- A new class for young mums 'Bumps to Baby' runs Monday's 1.30 - 3.00 PM
- Baby Massage classes running every Thursday between 1.30 - 3.00 PM (please call the Centre to book a place).
- Speech and Language clinics every Monday between 9.00 - 5.00 and Wednesday between 9.00 - 1.00 PM (referral only)
- Joint speech therapy, education psychology and paediatric clinics: these run every other Tuesday between 1.00 -5.00 (referral only)
- Post-natal clinic drop-I run my Health Visitor Nursery Nurses:: every Monday between 9.00 - 11.00 PM
- BIBS: Breastfeeding and Infant feeding Baby Support group drop-in run by our specialist midwives. Held every Monday between 11.00 - 12.00 midday.
- Health Visitor led 2 year Children's Developmental checks: by arrangement with your Health Visitor within our clinic rooms.
Family Support and Community Outreach
Stoneycroft Children's Centre offers a variety of support to children and families via its family link workers, including individual support and parenting groups according to need.
The following services can be accessed from the Children's Centre:
- Toy library drop-in: every Thursday between 3.00 - 5.00 PM you can come and choose a new set of toys to borrow at a very low fee!
- Under One's Group: every Wednesday between 1.00 - 3.00 PM you can drop into our under-one's group with your baby to meet other new parents, make friends, get up to date information from our health and midwives colleagues, be creative and have fun!
- Multi-sensory activities: 'Stimulate your senses' and come and use our Sensory Room! Bookable sessions every Friday between 1.00 - 5.00 PM
- Family Learning sessions: a rolling programme of computer and craft activities. Story sacs sessions (chance to have fun while making a valuable resource to help your child's development) starting April - please ring to book a place on this 6 week session!
- Services for children with special educational needs: our Special Needs Link Worker can visit you to discuss how our Centre can support you and your family - just ring to find out more.
- Parent, Carer and Toddler group: this fabulously popular and varied groups meets twice a week on every Monday between 1.15 - 2.45 PM and every Thursday between 9.00 - 10.45 PM. Just drop-in to have a really good time!
- Sleep Workshop: these run regularly on Friday mornings- next one in April - to help you resolve some of your worries over your children's sleeping habits. Please ring us for more details.
- Movers & Groovers: physical dance/movement sessions for you and your baby/toddler - every Friday between 10.30 - 11.30 AM
- Dad's group: active Dad's football training every Tuesday evening between 6.30 - 8.00PM: and every first Saturday in the month 'Just 4 Dads' - a great opportunity to have fun with your child/children on your own! This runs between 10.30 - 12.00 -just drop by.
- Freedom Project: support group relating to issues of Domestic Violence - running currently (February 2008) on Friday mornings between 10.00 - 12.30 (please ring for details).
- ESOL classes: these classes run by Family Learning Service for adults for whom English is not their first language run every Wednesday afternoon between 1.00 - 3.00 PM (please ring for further details).
- Baby Signing: this class is run by staff from the Deaf Centre every Wednesday afternoon between 3.00 - 4.00 PM: please call us for more details on this class.
- Musical Minnies: this is a wonderful chance to join in musical fun with your baby/toddler. Sessions run every Tuesday between 11.15 - 12.00 midday - please ring to book your place!
- Relate: every Wednesday morning between 10.00 - 2.00 PM we have a Relate counsellor available in the Centre for anyone who would like to discuss their concerns in confidence. Please ring us to book a place for this really helpful service.
Job Centre Plus
Are you interested in work or training but you're worried about childcare or how it might affect your income? At Stoneycroft Children's Centre a New Deal Personal advisor will be able to offer advice, help and support on:
- Finding a job
- Looking for childcare
- Identifying training opportunities
Understanding what financial help you may be entitled to.
From February 18th 2008 we are running a Discovery Week to help you find out more about job and training opportunities - please call us or drop-in to find out more - there will be child care facilities available!
Liverpool Childcare and Family Information Service (CAFIS)
This service provides free information on registered childcare provision within the area. CAFIS is also working in partnership with Job Centre Plus to support people who want to go back into work or training.
A new programme of support includes childcare chats to explain the different options available to you and up to five free taster sessions for parents who are eligible for New Deal for Lone Parents, New Deal for Partners and Employment Zone Recruitment Services.
Childminder Network
A childminder network runs from within Stoneycroft Children's Centre. The support group is a formal group of OFSTED registered childminders managed by a designated co-ordinator.
Childminders are professional people who provide good quality home based childcare which meets the needs of the local community.
The childminder support group hold their drop-in sessions at the Children Centre every Tuesday between 9.30 - 11.30 AM to enable their minded children to have experience of group activities.
Coming Soon!
Here are three new projects for coming up:
- Hanen training - Wednesday 22nd February between 9.30 - 12.00 PM - this is another fun time where you can find out more about promoting your child's social, language and early literacy skills.
- Incredible Years -Tuesday 1st April between 9.30 - 11.30 this is a free fun course to 'find out new ways to enjoy your time together with your child, build on your relationships and tackle the challenges!'
- Baby Yoga - a new opportunity to bond with your baby: please book early for this course which starts on April 4th between 9.30 - 10.30.
