Services at Wavertree Children's Centre

Wavertree Children's Centre brings together a wide range of services for children from birth to 5 years old and their families, pregnant women and their partners.  The Centre is a one-stop shop bringing a range of services together within the community, including childcare,health, family support and antenatal services for parents and carers. These services are for everyone within the Wavertree and Greenbank Wards and beyond.

We hope to make it easier for parents to obtain the range of services they need for themselves and their families in the early years of their children's lives. You can use this Children's Centre, or one that is more convenient for you. Just register at the centre and you can access all the services.

All the services are free, except for the day care, but you may be eligible for financial support through the Working Families Tax Credits.

Education and Childcare.

The nursery provides education with care for children aged 6weeks-5years. The nursery is open Monday-Friday from 8.00am-6.00pm, 50 weeks per year.

The staff are qualified and experienced in delivering quality childcare and implementing the Birth to Three Framework and Foundation Stage Curriculum. We provide a secure and welcoming environment, which encourages learning through play, child centred activities and stimulating experiences. Children's key workers maintain assessment and progress records in consultation with their parents/carers.

Nursery Staff work closely with experienced teaching staff from Greenbank Primary School.

the setting actively promoted equality and inclusion  with continuous support for children with special educational needs and children whom English is an additional language.  Our admission policy covers a wide criteria including purchased and funded places.  Full and part time places are available to meet individual family needs.

If your child is aged 3 or 4 years old then you are entitled to receive free childcare sessions until your child reaches statutory school age. This equates to five two-and-a-half hour sessions per week. Child and Family Health Services

Baby massage.

The Children's Centre core staff team who are all fully trained deliver this service. The programme runs over a five-week period currently on a Friday afternoon from 1.30pm till 3.00pm and is suitable for babies aged from birth.

These sessions encourage relaxation and bonding with your child.

Due to the high demand - places will need to be booked via the centre on 0151 233 6870.

Bosom Buddies.

This group is led by Sarah who is Lelche trained and it is also supported by Lorraine a specialist Midwife.  It offers advice and support to women regarding breast-feeding issues.  Pregnant mums are also welcome.  The sessions are running on Tuesday morning 10.00am until 12.00.

Antenatal Classes.

The community midwives run these sessions on a Tuesday evening from 6.00pm until 7.00pm.  They are run in 3 week blocks.  Please contact the centre for dates and to book a place.

Baby Yoga.

these sessions are delivered by the centre core staff for babies aged 4 to 8 months, all staff are fully trained and qualified.  Sessions take place on Monday mornings from 10.45 to 12.00.  The sessions run in a four week cycle and due to high demand sessions will need to be booked through the centre.

Baby Club.

The baby club takes place on a Friday morning from 10.00am until 12.00.  this is a drop in session for parents and babies up to 6 months old and is run by a health practitioner, whi is able to provide support and advice regards to feeding, weaning etc.

Family Support and Community Outreach
 
Twins Club.

Sessions are held on alternate Mondays from 1.00 to 3.00pm. They are led by the centres core staff and support families with twins and multiple births giving parents and carers the opportunity to meet others in the same situation and share their experiences. The sessions include activities, songs and light refreshments.

Story Sack and Sing Your Little Socks Off.

Sessions are held on alternate Monday afternoons from 1.30 to 3pm. They are led by the centres core staff and include a story followed by a singing session.

Walk In The Park.

this walk includes a sing along and is led by the centre core staff.  It is held on wednesday afternoon starting at 12.15pm at the centre and 1.00pm.  Refreshments at the centre are offered after the walk.

Stay and Play.

The group is heldon a Wednesday afternoon from 1.00pm to 3.00pm (following on from the Walk in the Park).  It is for children 0-5 years and their parents and carers.  The session includes play activities, creative activities, songs and also light refreshments.

Kindermusic.

This is a fun time musical session for children aged 0-5 years and includes themed songs, music and musical instruments.  The sessions take place on Thursday afternoon from 1.30pm to 3.00pm.

Dads and Male Carers Club.

This group started on Saturday 28th June and will be held on alternative Saturdays from 9.30am to 12.30pm.  This is a group fro Dads and Male carers and focuses on children 0-5 years.  there will be a range of activities, so why not bring your children along and enjoy the fun.  Refreshments will be provided.  Please contact the centre for further details.

Splash and Sing.

These sessions are held in Wavertree Aquatic Centre on a Thursday from 12.00 until 1.00pm and are supported by the centres core staff. The sessions incorporate a splash and sing and encourage children to gain confidence in the water.  Please contact the centre for more information.

Toe Tappers.

these sessions are for children aged 18 months and over and include both music and movement to help children to gain new skills and build their confidence.

Story Sack Library.

This is an excellent resource to use with your child to encourage their love of books, whilst enhancing their speech, language, concentration andcommunication.  Each sack has a theme and contains - a book and activities/resources to expand the story.

Toy Library.

The library offers the opportunity for families to borrow a variety of toys that are appropraite for children aged 0-5 years, for a minimal charge.  this will encourage and help your child to develop through play.  For more information please contact a member of the children centre staff team.

Sensory Room.

the centre has a sensory room which is available each day and offers the opportunity for parents and carers to relax with their child/children in a calm and tranquil environment.  The room can be booked for half hour sessions and is free of charge.  Please contact the centre to book your session.

Sleep Advice.

Advice is available at the centre on sleep problems that you may be experiencing with your child.  Please contact Paula at the centre.

Parental Participation.

It is important for the success of the Children Centre for us to meet with parents so that they have an opportunity to inform us of services they would like to see delivered from their children centre.  The parent focus group is an ideal opportunity for parents to meet and discuss.  they take place on the first Wednesday of each month from 9.00am to 10.00am.  Children are welcome to come along and refreshments are provided. 

Job Centre Plus 
 
Are you interested in work or training but you're worried about childcare or how it might affect your income?  At Wavertree Children Centre we liase closely with New Deal Personal Advisor's who will be able to offer advice, help and support on

  • Finding a job

  • Looking for childcare

  • Identifying training opportunities

  • Understanding what financial help you may be entitled to.

The centre also has a phone that is linked directly to the Job Centre and also has direct lines to Jobseeker Direct, Crisis Loan, Child Benefit Helpline, Tax Credits Helpline etc and is a free service.

Liverpool Children's Information Service (LCIS)

This service provides free information on registered childcare provision within the area.  LCIS is also working in partnership with Job Centre Plus to support people who want to go back into work or training.  A new programme of support includes childcare chats to explain the different options available to you and up to five free taster sessions for parents who are eligible for New Deal for Lone Parents, New Deal for Partners and Employment Zone Recruitment Services.

Childminder Network

A childminder network runs from within Wavertree Children's Centre.The support group is a formal group of OFSTED registered childminders managed by a designated co-ordinator.  Childminders are professional people who provide good quality home based childcare, which meets the needs of the local community.  The childminder support group hold their drop-in sessions at the Children Centre every Thursday morning from 9.30 to 11.30am. to enable their minded children to have experience of group activities.

Free courses covering various subjects, giving parents the opportunity to extend their skills and knowledge and have fun.

Hanen. - You Make The Difference.

Learn how to enrich your child's language, literacy and social development during everyday activities. This will be rolled out over a 9-week period. Contact the centre for more details.

Cooking sessions.

We will be running sessions on cooking healthy, simple, cheap and quick meals for yourself and your family, run by the Community Food Workers. Contact the centre for more details.

First Aid.

This training will include emergency first aid and resuscitation. lease contact the centre for more details.
