Services at Tuebrook Children's Centre

Tuebrook Children's Centre brings together a wide range of services for children from birth to under 5 years old and their families, pregnant women and their partners.  The centre is a one-stop shop bringing a range of services together within the community, including health, family support and ante-natal services for parents and carers. These services are for everyone within the Tuebrook Ward and beyond. We hope to make it easier for parents to obtain the range of services they need for themselves and their families in the early years of their children's lives.  You can use this Children Centre, or one that is more convenient for you.  Just register at the centre, and you can access all the services.

All the services are free except for the daycare, but you may be eligible for financial support through the Working Families Tax Credits.  To find out if how much you may be able to recieve you can use the Working Families Tax Credit Estimator. EDUCATION AND CHILDCARE SERVICES

Children's Centre Nursery

The nursery provides education with care for children aged 6 weeks to under 5 years. We are open Monday - Friday from 8am - 6pm, 50 weeks per year. The nursery will close on bank holidays, and for staff training which is approx 6 days per year. In addition we have a week closure during the Christmas holidays, which will vary each year. All staff are qualified and experienced in delivering quality childcare and the implementation of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. Our latest Ofsted inspection was carried out on 24th March 2009 and the overall rating was 'Good'. To view a copy of the latest report please visit the Ofsted website.

Our Nursery also recieved the Quality Assurance kite mark, which we are very proud off and which can be made available for viweing upon request. 

The nursery offers a safe, secure and stimulating environment that is welcoming and child centered. We offer all children opportunities to learn through play, new experiences and challenging activities.  Children's assessments and records of progress are completed in consultation with parents/carers.

The setting actively promotes equality and inclusion, there is continuous support for children with special educational needs and for children whom English is an additional language.

If your child is aged 3 or 4 years old then you are entitled to receive free childcare sessions, until your child reaches statutory school age.  This equates to five two-and-a-half hour sessions per week.  For more information and to check specific eligibility please ring Liverpool Children's Information Service (LCIS) on freephone 0800 234 6346.   

FAMILY SERVICES  

 

We deliver most of the family services from our centre, but will also deliver from local venues within our area to enable as many families as possible to access our services. These venues are:

  • Anfield Sports & Community Centre, (family Services room), Lower Breck Road,Liverpool, L6 0AG. 

  • Lister Infant School, (Parents room), Green Lane, liverpool, L13 7DT.

CHILD AND FAMILY HEALTH SERVICES   

  • Parentcraft Sessions

Mums to be ante natal classes led by Fran our Community Midwife. TENS units (for pain relief in the last stages of your pregnancy) are also available for you to loan. Ring the centre to book your place.

  • Breast Feeding Support Group

Dedicated support and advice around breastfeeding from our midwife.

  • Baby Massage                        

To encourage your baby's relaxation and support bonding between parent and baby. For babies from 6 weeks.

  • Baby Yoga

For babies under 6 months (before crawling stage) A wonderful chance to continue bonding with your baby and new opportunities to learn together. unwind and relax with us.

  • Infant Feeding Drop in 

Advice and support from Pat from our midwifery team on any feeding issues that you may have inc breast feeding and bottle feeding. Mums to be are also welcome to come along. Refreshments will be available.

  • Free Smoke Detectors

Contact us for appointment for home visit by Merseyside Fire Services who will provide you with your free smoke detectors.

  • Ante/ Post Natal Clinic    

Service is delivered by midwife and offers support and advice to parents to be and parents of babies aged up to 4 weeks.

  • Fag Ends
Amanda, our Sure start stop smoking advisor is available to give advice, support and treatment including NRT prescriptions. To find out about services being run at other venues please call Fag Ends free helpline number: 0800 195 2131
  • Developmental Reviews 

Service is delivered by health visitors. Developmental checks for babies up to 2 years old. By appointment only.

  • ROSPA - Home safety Equipment

The Safe at Home equipment scheme is an initiative to help families keep their children safe from accidents in the home. To find out if you are eligible to recieve this equipment please ring 233 3830.

FAMILY SUPPORT AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH SERVICES

  • Home Visits

The children's centre link workers endeavor to home visit all registered new births within the Tuebrook ward within 6 months of birth.  Home Safety Assessments are available and free safety packs will be distributed to any families taking part in the assessment.  If you have recently given birth and would like to find out what the centre has to offer you, please contact the centre.

  • Stay and Play                     

For mums, dads/male carers, grandads, and their children, enjoying interactive play.

  • Stay Play and Lend

Stay and play and lend an educational toy for your child to enjoy at home.

  • Crafty Corner

Different arts and craft activities for your child to enjoy each week.

  • Storyteller and Rhymetime

Enjoy reading with your child using story sack resources.

  • Toddler Tales

Read with your child and see the benefits in their language and vocabulary.

  • Gym Tots

Family fun activity for children aged 2 to under 5. to increase confidence, co-ordination and flexibility.

  • Healthy Adventures

Physical activities for children aged 2 to under 5 years. to increase confidence, co-ordination and flexibility.

  • Boogie Babies (term time)

Led by Andrea (Boogie Babes) and supported by Pat. Music and dance for children from 18 months to 4 years. Its fun, its healthy and its active!  

  • Swim and Sing(term time)

Takes place at Peter Lloyd Leisure centre and led by qualified instructor. For babies/young children under 5 years and their parents/carers. Helps to gain confidence in the water  and includes singing and music. Just come along to this activity. Very young babies will need a "swim nappy" available from most supermarkets.

  • Sleep Advice

Advice on Sleep problems you may be experiencing with your child under 5.

  • ESOL - (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

Basic English course for families who speak other languages. 

  • Everday Maths course  (term time)

Refresh your numeracy skills to help you work out bills, understand metric units and help you to help your children with maths homework. Contact Gill to book your place. Limited creche places available.

  • Positive Approaches To Happy families

Parenting course to support parents in managing their child's behaviour. Includes limited creche places.

  • Infant First Aid and Home Safety Courses

Two hour sessions providing basic skills in Infant First Aid to help parents/carers of children under 5 to be better able to act in any emergency. Courses will take place monthly. Contact Fran to book your places including creche.

  • Pertemps

Helping you to find training and the job you want. 

  • Counselling service - by appointment only

Counselling service available at the centre. By appointment only.

  • NHS Baby Lifecheck - on line health service.

An online easy to use health assessment questionnaire, designed to help parents and carers through the early stages of a childs life. NHS Baby life check aims to raise people's awareness of healthy parenting practices and highlights the range of local and national support available to them. Alternatively, for parents/carers who do not have computer with internet access, a computer is available for you to use at our centre.

  • Young Parent Group

Weekly drop in sessions offering the opportunity for young parents and young parents to be aged 16-21 to meet together. Led by Rosemary and Margie these sessions will offer a range of activities and provide information on key topics to help support you.

  • Family Time                 

Stay and play session for families with children under five years. Lots of fun activities to enjoy.

  • Coffee Morning

An opportunity to meet other parents, have a chat, enjoy a cup of tea and piece of toast.

Drop in Support for Families with Children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Facilitated by Karen Vinue, Early Support Key Worker and Angela Bagan, our SEN / Disability Link Worker. Service offers information and support to children with SEN and their families to include the following: Information on benefits, play and leisure, early support and other relevant services. For more information or advice please ring Irene on 233 3830.

Parentline

If you want to talk to someone confidentially about any parenting issue affecting you, call Parentline on 0808 800 2222, free from all landlines and most mobile networks, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Parentline is answered by trained staff and volunteers, all of whom have parenting experience. Their website takes you through many of the problems families face. There is lots of information for parents of new babies through to teenagers.

JOB CENTRE PLUS

Are you interested in work or training but you're worried about childcare or how it might effect your income?  A New Deal Personal advisor will be able to offer advice, help and support on

  • Finding a job
  • Looking for childcare
  • Identifying training opportunities                                                           

LIVERPOOL CHILDCARE AND FAMILY INFORMATION SERVICE (CAFIS)

This service provides free information on registered childcare provision within the local area.  CAFIS is also working in partnership with Job Centre Plus to support people who want to go back into work or training.  A new programme of support includes childcare chats to explain the different options available to you including up to five free taster sessions for parents who are eligible for New Deal for Lone Parents, New Deal for Partners and Employment Zone Recruitment Services. Parents can now access our Parents Info website to find out about childcare, schools etc.

CHILDMINDER NETWORK

A childminder network is being developed within Tuebrook Children's Centre.  The support group is a formal group of OFSTED registered childminders managed by a designated co-ordinator.  Childminders are professional people who provide good quality home based childcare which meets the needs of the local community. Please contact our Community Childminder network Co-ordinator, Gill on 233 3830 for more information.

PARENT FOCUS GROUP

The Parents Focus Group provides a good opportunity for parents and staff to come together and share information about the development of the new centre and the services we deliver. We aim to keep these as informal as possible and meetings take place every 6-8 weeks.
