Secondary school admissions introduction
Children who reach eleven between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008 can go to secondary school in September 2008. This means those born between 1 September 1996 and 31 August 1997.

There are different types of secondary school. These include:
- community schools,
- foundation and voluntary aided Catholic schools,
- voluntary aided Church of England schools,
- academies
- a voluntary aided Jewish school, and
- a voluntary aided grammar school.
The admission arrangements vary between schools.
If you live in Liverpool and your child is transferring from primary to secondary school:
- your child's primary school will send you a preference form and a booklet;
- you can choose any school in Liverpool or any school in another Local Education Authority;
- before you choose a school think about the chances of your child getting a place.
