Secondary school admissions introduction

Children who reach eleven between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008 can go to secondary school in September 2008.  This means those born between 1 September 1996 and 31 August 1997.

There are different types of secondary school.  These include: 

  • community schools, 
  • foundation and voluntary aided Catholic schools, 
  • voluntary aided Church of England schools, 
  • academies
  • a voluntary aided Jewish school,  and
  • a voluntary aided grammar school.         

The admission arrangements vary between schools.   

If you live in Liverpool and your child is transferring from primary to secondary school:

  • your child's primary school will send you a preference form and a booklet;
  • you can choose any school in Liverpool or any school in another Local Education Authority; 
  • before you choose a school think about the chances of your child getting a place.
