Sensory Impairment Service
What does the service do?
. We help children who have problems with their hearing or sight.
. We have a central team and three bases in mainstream schools.
. We offer a range of services to pupils of any age.
What does the Central Team do?
. We give support to families, schools and nurseries.
. We provide any necessary training.
. We support pupils in mainstream and special schools.
. We promote effective teaching plans.
. We provide special equipment and resources.
. We work in partnership with other organisations.

The authority also provides for three resourced bases.
Primary Deaf Resource Base
This base is located in Knotty Ash Primary school. It provides for the needs of pre-school and primary profoundly deaf children who require extra support.
Secondary Deaf Resource Base
This base is located in Broadgreen High school. It provides for the needs of secondary profoundly deaf pupils who require extra support.
Secondary Visually Impaired Base
This base is located in Gateacre Community Comprehensive School. It provides for the needs of secondary visually impaired pupils who require more intensive support.
