The Liverpool Youth service
The Youth Service aims to provide Liverpool's young people with as many opportunities as possible to bring enrichment to their lives.
We place particular emphasis on securing services for those young people who have had least benefit from the education system.
We provide a variety of programmes and opportunities that are either educational or recreational in nature.
In order to be effective, however, we make sure that these opportunities are:
- responsive to the needs of young people;
- within easy travelling distance;
- stimulating and exciting;
- affordable;
- good quality.
The service works in partnership with other agencies including the following:
- voluntary organisations;
- Greater Merseyside Connexions Partnership;
- the police;
- Liverpool's Youth Offending Team (Y O T);
- Citysafe.
Each year the Youth Service presents a plan which is put together after consultation. It takes account of the following considerations:
- Any progress which was made on the previous year's plans.
- Changes which have taken place in the environment.
- The identified needs of young people.
- The needs of the community in general.

Integrated Youth Support Strategy
Youth Matters, Youth Matters Next Steps, and the Education and Inspections Act 2006 signalled the requirement for each Local Authority to reshape current support services for young people, for example, Connexions and Youth Services, and have an Integrated Youth Support Strategy agreed during 2008. The Liverpool Strategy was approved in January 2008.
