Liverpool City Council - Parenting Strategy

Parenting Strategy

The Local Authority was required to publish a parenting strategy by March 2008. City wide consultation took place in two phases.

The first phase was consulting with parents, children and young people to discover their needs and thoughts on what was and should be provided.

This coincided with an audit of provision which was available for individuals and groups involved with supporting parenting, to make their contribution through the use of a questionnaire.

Key stakeholders were also invited to various conferences, so as to gain the response of the third and voluntary sector.

The second phase consisted of consultation on the draft strategy, which was posted on the LCVS website and sent to all the providers who returned a form for the audit, all councillors and schools.

Everyone wants to be a good parent, but it is not always easy - we are here to help.

We want to support parents to make well-informed choices and decisions that will improve their child's 'outcomes'. The support for parenting skills is a key priority for Liverpool's Children's Services.

An Executive Summary has also been written and a family friendly version of this will be produced.
