Noise
The Environmental Health Service has powers to deal with a wide variety of noise sources - but not all. The most common types of noise we deal with are listed below.
Source of Noise
Domestic property
- shouting, banging doors persistently
- TVs or stereos too loud
- musical instruments
- animals e.g. barking dogs, crowing cockerels
- DIY work at unreasonable hours
- intruder alarms.

- demolition noise
- intruder alarms.
Vehicles
- car alarms
- car stereo too loud (only if vehicle parked).
Examples of noise we cannot deal with are:
- Children/youths causing annoyance
- Noise from traffic.
When dealing with noise, if we are satisfied that a nuisance exists, we will serve a notice requiring it to stop, prohibiting it or restricting it. For example, if the noise is from a continually sounding intruder alarm we could get it stopped. If it were from a building site we would restrict the noise to daytime hours.
