Our Pollution Control Unit deals with a broad range of enquiries.
Nuisances
If you think that you have a problem with noise nuisance from neighbours our district team with investigate. You can also find some useful information on our noise page. We also deal with complaints about dust, smoke and odours.
Hazardous waste
We deal with incidents of hazardous waste spillage and dumping and we can also make arrangements to remove these harmful materials from environment.
Asbestos
If you require information we can offer advice on all aspects of removal and handling of asbestos and materials containing asbestos. If you are worried about the presence of asbestos in your home please to visit our frequently asked questions section at the bottom of the page.
Water sampling
If you think that you have got a problem with your water supply we can carry out sampling for lead, bacteriological and chemical content. We can also provide some general help and advice.
Licensing & Public Entertainment
Our team deals with license applications and also provides advice to applicants and the council's Licensing Sub-Committee. We also provide help and advice to new applicants and licence holders.

Integrated pollution control
The team inspect and permit a number of industrial businesses to ensure compliance with the law. Our staff will also provide help and advice to businesses as well as the general public.

Planning liaison
The unit offers specialist advice on planning and development applications to the council's Planning, Transportation and Building Surveying Service.
We can also give advice and assistance to developers, architects and builders.
Contaminated land
We have developed a plan to identify all contaminated sites in the city that will help to ensure that all these sites are cleaned up in the future. If you wish to look at our contaminated land inspection plan
