Recycling FAQ
Are all areas included in the Kerbside recycling scheme?
Multi material recycling is available to all areas of the city. Green garden waste recycling is available to households with front or back gardens that have space to store a wheelie bin.
Do I have to take part in this recycling scheme?
You do not have to take part in the scheme: it is not compulsory. However we ask all residents to consider using the recycling facilities the council provides. Recycling household materials prevents precious resources going to waste in landfill and conserves raw materials.
How often are collections?
Collections will take place fortnightly, but there are no collections on a Bank Holiday Monday. On Bank Holiday weeks your collection day will move forward 24 hours (friday collections will be moved to the Saturday). Residents will be informed of alternative arrangements made during the Christmas and New Year period.
I've lost my bin/box can I have a replacement?
Yes. It will be left as secure as possible on the edge of your property near to the pavement. To inform the council that you require a new recycling bin or box please call Liverpool Direct on 0151 233 3001. Please bring your recycling container back onto your property as soon as possible after emptying, and keep it secure.
How do I report that my recycle bin/box has not been collected?
Missed collections need to be reported within 48 hours, ie, if your collection was missed on a Monday it has to be reported no later than midday Wedneday. To report a missed collection call Liverpool Direct on 233 3001 and the advisor will take the details.
What time do I need to put the bin/box out by?
You need to ensure that the bin/box is out no later than 7.30am.
Where should I put my recycling bin/box?
Recycling bins should be presented in a visible position off the edge of your property, by the pavement if you do not have an alleyway at the rear of your property. Do not leave it behind a wall or down a side alley. If you have an alleyway collection, your bin should be left at the end of the alleyway by the gate and the gate opened before 7:30am. Recycling boxes should be presented in a visible position off the edge of your property, by the pavement. Do not leave it behind a wall or down a side alley.
