Green waste collection service

Liverpool City council offers a fortnightly green waste collection service to residents who have a garden and a suitable storage area within their property. 

How to sign up for the green waste collection service

If your road/street does not already have a green waste collection service in operation, please contact Liverpool Direct on 233 3001 to find out if this service is available. If it is, a green wheeled bin and detailed instructions will be sent to your home.

Compost Giveaway Events

Liverpool city council holds compost giveaway events througout the year to promote the use of the Green waste collection service and the use of home compost bins.

The next compost giveaway event is:-

Saturday 20th March from 9am-12noon at Croxteth Park, car park entrance off Oak Lane/Muirhead Avenue.

Please bring along your own bags and shovels and help yourself to some compost. Stock to customers may be limited on the day.

What you can put in your green bin:

  • grass cuttings
  • hedge clippings
  • garden prunings (cut flowers)
  • bark
  • leaves
  • small twigs
  • shrub prunings (woody waste)
  • dead plants/weeds
  • branches no larger than 7.5cm (3") diameter.        

What you CANNOT put in your green bin:

  • stone
  • concrete
  • glass
  • plastic
  • metal
  • paper & cardboard
  • plant pots
  • household rubbish
  • kitchen waste (i.e. fruit and vegetable peelings, fish, meat and cooked food)
  • animal faeces or bedding
  • timber, DIY or builders' waste
  • soil and turf.
