Liverpool City Council - land fill

Land fill

Typical scene at a landfill site

Landfill sites are where local authorities and industry can take waste to be buried and compacted with other wastes. The Environment Agency licenses and regulates landfill sites to ensure that their impact on the environment is minimised.

Liverpool has one Waste Transfer Reception centre within the city. This is based at:-

Gillmoss Waste Reception centre
Stonebridge Lane
Fazakerley
Liverpool

Waste is collected and transferred from Gillmoss Waste Reception centre to a number of landfill sites including Lord Street in St. Helens, and Arpley in Warrington.

With the cost of burying rubbish in landfill sites continuing to rise, Liverpool City Council is encouraging its residents and businesses to reduce the amount of rubbish sent to landfill by recycling.
