Liverpool City Council - street care and cleaning

Street care and cleaning

One of our street sweepers near the famous SuperLambBanana
The Street Cleansing Service is responsible for the day-to-day cleansing requirements of the city. The service includes:
  • Street sweeping
Removing litter, silt, dead weeds and dog faeces from hard surfaces within its responsibilities. Litter picking from all unallocated public open spaces, grass verges and planted areas adjoining the highway.

  • Litter bin emptying
Bins are emptied on set dates.

  • Gully cleansing
This is done twice a year to help the drainage of roadways and reduce the risk of damage to property.

  • Fly tipping (wasteland dumping)
Removed within 10 days of reporting.

  • Dog Fouling
Leaving dog mess in a public place not only makes the area untidy, but is a serious health issue.  Residents are advised to take bags out with them when they walk their dog, to clean up their dog's mess and to put the bag in the dog fouling bins available in parks or in their own refuse bin at home.

Dog fouling can be reported through Liverpool Direct on 0151 233 3001 or through our online repoting service.

Additional services include:

  • Weed spraying on highways and passages.
  • Street washing as directed.
  • Dead animal removal (usually within 1 day).
  • Cleansing of recycling sites.

The Street Cleansing Services can be contacted through Liverpool Direct.
