South Central Neighbourhood Management Area

Area Context:
South Central Neighbourhood covers the wards of Princes Park, Greenbank, St Michaels, Wavertree, Church and Childwall. It stretches south from Smithdown Road, through Toxteth, Princes and Sefton Parks down to Aigburth. The area extends through Wavertree towards the city boundary, south of the West Coast main railway line to include Mossley Hill and Calderstones Park.
The area is also home to many of the city's diverse communities - particularly centred on the Granby and Toxteth areas of Princes Park ward, and acts as a social, cultural and economic focus for many more. South Central is leading on a number of projects to celebrate the city's diversity.
Housing:
The area is home to 83,000 people who live in higher than City average proportions of owner occupied homes (especially in Church and Childwall wards). Social housing is predominant in Princes Park, whilst privately rented accommodation is more common in Greenbank and St Michaels wards.
South Central has many beautiful listed buildings and a large part of the area is within eleven conservation areas, with a mix of Victorian and Edwardian properties - mainly terraced and newer estates mainly constructed by the public sector. South Central includes within its boundary part of the affluent southern riverfront development at Otterspool, and the much sought-after properties bounding Sefton Park.
Employment Areas:
Wavertree Technology Park is to the north of the area, providing new hi-tech jobs in ICT. Retail centres at Wavertree, Allerton Road, Smithdown Road, and Aigburth Road also provide employment in the retail sector. It is also home to the Liverpool Women's Hospital.

- improving the quality and maintenance of the local environment;
- achieving 'decency' standards for all housing and increasing the level of home ownership;
- improving the health of local residents and promoting healthy lifestyles;
- ensuring local people can take advantage of training and employment opportunities generated in and around the area;
- improving educational attainment at all key stages for all communities;
- maximising the role of social economy enterprises in job creation and service delivery.
